Gas leaks, campsite and Vanlife and Overlander celebration

July 2023

So having purchased our new Cadac a few weeks ago it was time to get the outside gas point fitted. We had this done by a local company and all looked good, they fitted a quality attachment in the gas locker door and routed the new pipework tidily inside the locker with a separate one / off switch for the Cadac.

We set off for the Newbury Showground on the Wednesday before the show started, planning on staying at a campsite somewhere near the show and heading to the showground Thursday after stocking up at the shops.

We eventually found a site near Newbury, most of the ones we found on Search for Sites where fully booked or just ridiculously expensive for a one night stopover but we stumbled across https://bishopsgreenfarm.co.uk/ which was a lovely site run by a family. The site was kept very well and the toilet / shower block was immaculate. They were very quiet, which was a shame, and the owner explained that it had been quiet all the year, so we will be recommending the site to everyone heading this way.

Once we were set up on the site we settled down and decided what to have for tea. It was at this point Hayley said she could smell gas!!! I went to the gas locker and could also smell it so took our gas detector (link on our equipment page https://www.motorhomediscoveries.co.uk/p/our-recommended-items-for-motorhome.html) to find out where the leak was coming from. I discovered a couple of leaks in the new pipework and despite attempting to tighten the joints they kept leaking !!!! This was just what we didn't need when we hadn't eaten and were about to spend 4 days at a show. I searched about for mobile motorhome service locally and luckily came across Rhys from Leisure-Pro Ltd https://www.leisure-proltd.co.uk/ who replied to my email straight away and said he would come to campsite at 10am the next day!!!

Rhys arrived and within 20 minutes has sorted out the leak, basically all the new connections were loose, wether this was due to them not being tightened properly or just bad luck we don't know but he fixed them and we could get off to the show. He only charged us £25 and no call out charge so definitely worth remembering if you get stuck and you are in the Newbury area.

Anyway off to the https://www.vanlifecelebration.com/ at the Newbury Showground. This was the first time for this show and the organisers did very well, there was a few little things to sort out for the next one but I'm sure these will all get ironed out for next year.

It was a pretty chilled out show with a large barn for the entertainment and also the massive bar, which was great because the weather wasn't that good. We met loads of new people , subscribers and other Youtubers and it was amazing to see all the different types of van , camper , motorhome and even lorries that people came to the show in. We have made a video about the show on our youtube channel so pp over and have a watch to get a feel for the show.

After a great weekend we headed home on Monday morning and took the cross country route which took a lot longer than expected!!!
